History

In 1965 Mrs. Jean Coleman unified a common dream of a group of church women from various denominations to establish a day care center to serve working mothers. Together they established the Warner Robins Day Care Center, a non-profit organization. The sole purpose was to meet the needs of the community regardless of religion or race.

The Center was located in the Eagles Nest Recreation Center on Oak Grove Road and provided rent free by the City Housing Authority. At that time the Center only had two paid positions and twenty students. The vision to cherish children was fully embodied by the first director, Mrs. Ada Lee and Mrs. Ruby Wilson who was the first teacher and secretary. In 1975 Day Care II opened. The center was incorporated in 1982 and is now a non-profit United Way Agency.

Forty-seven years later that center, now called Cherished Children, is a dream realized.

Since the opening of the center in 1965 we have served over 1350 children and have helped over 900 families move up the ladder of independence. Cherished Children offers hope for a better economic life, gives children the tools they need to build a solid foundation for their education and nurtures important life skills.
